Bandung, July 23, 2025 – In celebration of Indonesia’s National Children’s Day, observed every July 23, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) held the CyberHeroes: Digital School program at two elementary schools in Bandung—SDN Sukapura 02 in Bandung Regency and SDN Pelesiran in Bandung City. The program took place on July 15 and 17, 2025, engaging more than 425 students from grades 1 to 6 in interactive sessions on digital literacy and cybersecurity.
This initiative reflects Telkom Indonesia’s commitment to equipping the younger generation with the knowledge and skills to use technology safely, wisely, and responsibly from an early age. According to data from Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2024, there are approximately 79.5 million children in Indonesia, nearly 29.4% of the population. In today’s digital era, children are no longer passive observers; they actively learn, play, and socialize online. However, along with opportunities, the digital world also brings significant risks.
“Children are the future of the nation. They must be protected, guided, and empowered to face the challenges of the times. Early digital literacy is a key foundation,” said Hery Susanto, Senior General Manager of Telkom Indonesia’s Social Responsibility Unit. “Through CyberHeroes, we want children to explore the digital world in a fun yet meaningful way, learning how to filter information, stay safe online, and use the internet responsibly. This effort also aligns with SDG 4 on Quality Education.”
During the sessions, younger students (Grades 1–3) were introduced to digital safety through creative activities such as coloring posters with online safety themes. Meanwhile, older students (Grades 4–6) learned practical skills, including creating strong passwords and simple video editing.
The enthusiasm of the students was evident. Fira, a sixth grader at SDN Sukapura, shared, “It was so much fun! I learned how to make passwords that are hard to guess and how to create videos. At first, I was afraid of making mistakes, but the facilitators guided us. Now I feel more confident using the internet.”
Naila, a fourth grader at SDN Pelesiran, added, “This was my first time learning about the internet in this way. I didn’t know why it’s dangerous to share personal information. The most exciting part was video editing—I realized the internet can be used for useful things, not just games or watching videos.”
The program will continue with additional topics, including digital ethics, identifying online hoaxes, and understanding modern technologies, all delivered through engaging and age-appropriate methods.
Beyond ensuring children’s online safety, CyberHeroes: Digital School also supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aligns with SDG 4 on Quality Education by providing children with essential 21st-century digital skills. The program also contributes to SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities through its efforts to expand equal access to digital education across different regions. In addition, it promotes SDG 16 on Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by fostering digital ethics and strengthening the protection of children in online spaces. Ultimately, CyberHeroes: Digital School is more than a one-time event, it is part of Telkom Indonesia’s broader mission to nurture a digitally literate, ethical, and responsible generation, one school at a time.
